In The Studio: Tareen Interiors

Award-winning British designer Nadia Tareen discusses her design work which spans from historic homes in the English countryside to courtside in the world's highest Padel court in Dubai.

Nadia: I'm one of the founding members of Tareen Interiors. Our British-founded brand specialises in high-end interior and fit-out solutions. With over 14 years of experience in interior design between the UK and UAE, we excel in residential and commercial interior renovation services. 

At Tareen Interiors, we cater to a diverse range of clientele. From individuals and families seeking their dream homes to commercial clients with specific needs, we work closely with our clients to create personalised designs that align with their lifestyle, brand identity, and goals. 

Timelessness is at the core of our design approach. We strive to create interiors that exude elegance beyond passing trends. Each project is meticulously tailored to the unique needs and preferences of our clients, paying attention to every detail from layout to furnishings. 

I collaborate with my business partner, Hassan Tareen, who serves as the Managing Partner. Hassan plays a crucial role in overseeing branding, advertising, budgeting, and advising on the legal aspects of our projects.

What I love most is working closely with clients from the very beginning of their projects. Whether it's a new construction or a renovation, I believe that every space has immense potential waiting to be unleashed. No interior space is too small, large, or dimly lit to be transformed into something extraordinary. 

My career in interior design spans over 14 years, starting in 2007 when I received my Interior Architecture Degree from Leeds University, known for its contributions to architecture and design. 

Design is my passion. Collaborating with clients, suppliers, and artisans brings me immense joy. I firmly believe that thoughtful and intentional design has the power to transform spaces and the lives of those who experience them. With every project, I aim to create designs that inspire, uplift, and reflect the unique stories and aspirations of the people who inhabit those spaces. 

Our design philosophy revolves around creating spaces that go beyond the ordinary. Whether we're embracing a contemporary, minimalist aesthetic or exploring a more eclectic and vibrant design, our ultimate goal remains the same - crafting spaces that effortlessly marry style, functionality, and personal expression.

Product design and innovation play a significant role in our process, and one of my favourite products to work with is our wallpaper. We view wallpaper as more than just a decorative element; it's a storytelling medium capable of evoking emotions and creating ambience within a space. Our wallpaper designs can transform a plain wall into a lush forest scene or capture the essence of a breathtaking landscape, offering an immersive experience. 

 Our wallpapers are hand-painted by artists, serving as the foundation for our designs. We take great care to preserve every brushstroke, subtle shading, and intricate detail by digitising the artwork. 

Over the years, I've had the privilege of working on high-end residential and commercial projects across Europe and the Gulf. One notable project is the expansive Carr Hall Castle in the UK, a luxurious historic getaway that earned the title of Britain's Best Home.

Another project close to our hearts was The Bells, a historic building in the UK that we transformed into a contemporary serviced hotel. Retaining the building's architectural integrity while cultivating a sympathetic interior aesthetic was both challenging and exhilarating. We successfully blended old-world charm with modern design sensibilities. 

In this project, we prioritised the use of materials and products that stand the test of time. For example, we combined metal and mesh to ensure the durability of wardrobes. Traditional and contemporary codes harmoniously coexist in our designs, such as Italian plaster combined with repurposed wood for wall coverings and concrete finishes applied to the walls.

For us, creating visually stunning spaces is just the beginning. Understanding our clients' essence, lifestyles, and their interaction with their surroundings is crucial. We believe that a well-designed space has the power to transform lives, inspire creativity, and enhance well-being by striking the perfect balance between form and function. 

Nature and biophilic approaches serve as constant inspirations for our designs. Integrating natural forms and elements into our work, we emphasise the connection between humans and nature. By promoting the use of natural materials, abundant natural light, and incorporating greenery, we create spaces that enhance well-being and productivity. 

Sustainability is also a key aspect of our design philosophy. We meticulously select high-quality materials that enhance visual appeal while ensuring durability and environmental responsibility. From natural stone and hardwoods to eco-friendly materials and innovative finishes, our designs are both unique and stunning. 

Currently, we are excited to be working on the world's highest padel courts located in the heart of Media City, Dubai. Padel has gained worldwide popularity, and we are thrilled to contribute to its growth. Our project will feature state-of-the-art courts with unobstructed ocean views, adding to the thrill of the game.
